WHO WE ARE
WHAT WE DO
Southwest Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center is a non-profit agency established in 1999. The Center currently serves 5 counties: Amite, Copiah, Lincoln, Pike and Walthall. We provide abused children with a non-threatening environment in which they can feel safe to talk about what has happened to them, and where their healing can begin. A forensic interview is conducted by a trained interviewer questioning the child about the abuse allegations while other members of the investigative team observe via closed circuit television.
Team observation of the forensic interview reduces the number of times a child must be questioned about his or her abuse thus preventing further trauma to child victims. Team observation of interviews enables a coordinated approach to investigations. A coordinated team approach equates to a more efficient and effective investigation. Fewer interviews and more efficient and effective investigations result in cost savings to communities. |
