TRAUMA-TRAINED THERAPY
All therapy service providers at Southwest Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center (SWMSCAC) are trained in an evidenced-based trauma modality. SWMSCAC also has contracts with several trauma-trained therapists in our surrounding counties to whom referrals can be made for closer proximity for our clients and families. The evidence-based trauma models most commonly utilized by our therapist are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Trauma-Trained Therapy VS. Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-trained therapy and trauma-informed care are sometimes used interchangeably; both provide care for people exposed to traumatic stress. However, the difference is that trauma-trained therapy is a clinical intervention that is designed to address trauma-related symptoms and PTSD directly in individuals and groups. In contrast, trauma-informed care is defined as a universal framework that requires changes to the practices, policies, and culture of an entire organization, so all staff have the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to support trauma survivors.
